Today Orange have announced the launch of the Klif handset in Africa and the Middle East along side an all inclusive mobile bundle and content portal.
Starting at €35, the Orange Kilf deal includes the phone with a bundled data, voice and text message package. As an example Orange are quoting that some of these markets will get 500mb per month for 6 months as part of the inclusive bundle.
The Kilf will also provide access to a digital content portal which will feature content provided by respected services such as Star Africa, Orange Football Club, Daily Motion, as well as access to local news & music.
Orange are hoping that by offering an affordable inclusive package the number of digitally connected citizens in these markets will significantly increase.
The Orange Klif is a 3G handset running the Firefox OS, and comes with a 3.5″ HVGA screen, a 2mp camera and a 1300mAH battery that can offer 810 hours (over 33 days) of standby time. These specs have obviously been designed to offer a cheap but appropriately functional device, rather then a cutting edge flagship device which should make the device available to a significant proportion of the target audience.
Exclusive to Orange, the Kilf will be available from Q2 in 13 markets across the Africa and the Middle East region including Egypt, Senegal, Tunisia, Cameroon, Botswana, Madagascar, Mali, The Ivory Coast, Jordan, Niger, Kenya, Mauritius and Vanuatu.
