Another week, another mid-range Lumia phone…the phablet-sized Lumia 640XL is nothing new, but Microsoft’s website has now changed its status from coming soon to available for purchase Announced at the same time as the 640, Microsoft’s latest phone boasts some decent specs, if nothing that’ll change the mobile world:
- Windows Phone 8.1 with Lumia Denim.
- Quad-core 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400.
- Internal memory: 1GB RAM, up to 8GB onboard; External: Up to 128GB microSD plus 30GB free on OneDrive.
- Display: 5.7″ HD 1280 x 720 resolution; 24-bit/16M TrueColour; 259ppi; Nokia ClearBlack, IPS LCD Technology; Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
- Battery: 3000 mAh, 2G: Up to 30.3 hours talk time; 3G: Up to 24 hours talk time.
- Main camera: 13MP.
- Dimensions: 157.9 x 81.5 x 9 mm (LxWxH).
- Weight: 171 g
What is impressive, however, is the price. Released at a healthy £219 the phone is available in black, red, white and cyan. At present it doesn’t seem that any other retailers are stocking the 640XL. The release of the 640 was a similar story: Microsoft announced its availability and sold it exclusively for a few weeks, then other retailers rapidly began to stock it at a cheaper price. That said, buying it from Microsoft directly has the distinct advantage of it coming with a free 12 month subscription to Office 365, worth £59.99.
