We are only a few weeks away from MWC, probably the biggest event in the smartphone calendar. There are many big flagships devices that are expected to be announced, the Galaxy S7, the LG G5 and the new HTC One amongst the others. Its at this stage that we often start seeing leaks coming out, and this year is no exception.
“LlabTooFeR”, a source which has in the past been pretty good with HTC One leaks, has reported that “HTC Perfume can be released on dedicated event. Unlike the previous info, it will run Android 6.0.1 and Sense 8.0_GP on the launch…” and “I’m expecting 2 versions of the device: Qualcomm 820 (for EU and US markets) and MTK based (Mainly for China and South-East Asia)…”
Whilst around the internet, most seem to refer to the new device as the M10, the internal name seems to be Perfume. The fact that it’ll be launching with Android 6 Marshmallow is not surprising since the A9 launched with it back in November. Sense has been in need of an overhaul for a while now, so it’ll be interesting to see what changes Sense 8 brings. The A9 launched with Sense 7 which was very Marshmallow-ised, will this continue or will we see something radically different?
Interestingly, there seems like there’ll be two different variant chipsets. an 820 and a MediaTek processor. Samsung has done something similar in the past using Qualcomm in the US and its own Exynos in other markets due to the modems and 4G bands the chipsets could support. However they have have standardised this in recent years (the S6 was Exynos only) as most chipsets support most frequencies. So whilst in itself it isn’t such a big deal that HTC is going down this route, it’d be interesting to know why. Patents possibly?
TechnoBuffalo also reports that there’ll be a 23 Megapixel camera and water-resistance will be a feature for the first time in an HTC Phone. [http://www.technobuffalo.com/2016/01/22/htc-one-m10-new-specs-and-launch-plans-leak-out/]
Whilst MWC is still a few weeks away, I think the leaks are gonna come thick and fast, so we should have more info soon.
What do you guys think? Sound off in the comments.
