Well it’s looks like the death knell is well and truly ringing for the Blackberry OS, following a sales fall of almost $200m in the three months to the end of February. Further bad news included the announcement that Facebook and its WhatsApp messaging service will no longer support the Blackberry apps or OS.
Now the chief executive of the company, John Chen, has announced that the company is going to release two more Android powered handsets.
Mr Chen told United Arab Emirates news website “The National” that..
Blackberry has no plans to develop handsets for its own operating system, BB10, but will continue to issue updates for existing devices.
The Priv, which we reviewed recently has proved to be pretty impressive, but Mr Chen stated that..
A lot of enterprise customers have said to us, ‘I want to buy your phone, but $700 (£491) is a little too steep for me. I’m more interested in a $400 device. The fact that we came out with a high-end phone was probably not as wise as it should have been.
Of the new devices, it’s believed that one will have a physical keyboard, the other a full touch-screen.
We have no news on release dates as yet, but from above it looks like the new devices may well be lower priced..
