Here at Coolsmartphone a number of writers use a Chromebook as their primary device. I’m one of them (I’m writing this very article on the fantastic Asus Chromebook Flip). Despite being cracking devices Chromebooks have never really hit the limelight… until now.
It appears that the Google low-cost Chromebooks are now outselling the Apple range of Macs. This is the first time it’s happened in the US.
IDC analyst Linn Huang confirmed the milestone..
Chrome OS overtook Mac OS in the US in terms of shipments for the first time in 1Q16.
Apple sold 1.76 million Macs in the latest quarter, with nearly 2 million Chromebooks sold by Dell, HP, and Lenovo combined. Over in the US Chromebooks are extremely popular as they are supplied to students in schools, and this could well be driving the current sales.
It appears that Chromebooks are going to put a shot across Microsoft’s bow, as they are now a direct comparison to their low-cost laptop. Couple this with the Google I/O announcement that Android apps are on the way to the Chrome platform and it looks like the Chrome OS is going from strength to strength.
