Ernest Doku, who is the mobiles expert at uSwitch.com, tells us..
OnePlus has excelled as a best-kept secret in smartphone circles, steadily gaining street cred from its invite-only initial release to exclusives with tastemakers and influencers.
With the OnePlus 5, everything from features to form suggests a shot at flagship dominance – albeit this time with a price point to match.
The vital stats suggests no compromise. Its sleek design would easily pass the ‘pub test’ and with a dual-lens camera as seen in the LG G6 and Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus, all signs point to a phone trying to gain dominance through style and photography credentials.
Hi-end specs without the hi-end price it seems. Indeed, it has a 5.5″ AMOLED screen at 1080 x 1920 pixels (~401 ppi), the Oxygen / Android 7.1.1 OS and the Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 835 CPU. This processor will see you ticking along with octa-core (4×2.45 GHz Kryo & 4×1.9 GHz Kryo) power. There’s either a 64GB storage / 6GB RAM option or a 128GB storage and 8GB RAM option, but no microSD card.
Around back, a dual camera – one 16 megapixel f/1.7 and a 20 megapixel f/2.6 with phase detection autofocus, 2x optical zoom and dual LED flash. Up front 16 megapixel shooter.
Other specs include a 3.5mm audio port, WiFi, DLNA, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC, USB-C connector and fast charging.
