Out here in Barcelona I have the 17,000mAh portable battery above. It’s this Xtorm one and is nearly two and half centimetres thick. It also weighs in at 214 grams.
Carrying one of these in a necessary evil, especially when you’re using your phone as much as I am right now. My normal handset is nearly flat by lunchtime and so this will top things up. Why? Well, my phone has a 3000mAh battery in it. Sure, it’s good enough, but like many smartphones, you need to charge at least daily.
Energizer have solved this issue by, in effect, combining my portable charger and phone. The result is going to be thicker, we all knew that, but just how thick would it be?
In reality, it is quite thick. There’s no getting away from that. You knew that. However, it’s not as terrible or heavy as I thought it would be. The battery has to also sit next to the camera, the inner CPU board and screen. In my head I’d basically imaged my bulky 17,000mAh charger with a phone on top, but it’s actually noticeably thinner.
This is a test device at the moment and it won’t turn on. We also couldn’t get exact dimensions (at a rough guess, comparing to the charger I had with me, I’d say it’s around 1.7cm (17mm) thick. We also couldn’t get an answer on how long it would take to recharge such a massive brute of a battery. However, we did at least find out that it has a 5.99″ 18:9 screen, a 3.5mm audio jack, a dual 16 megaxpiel and 13 megapixel rear shooter and a 13 / 5 megaxpixel front cam.
Here’s the shots..
