HTC announce U12+ flagship

HTC have just announced their latest flagship device – the U12+. It certainly is a beautiful looking phone too.

Whilst many companies are going with a notch design on the front, HTC have decided to go against this and we’ve instead got a gorgeously large 6 inch display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and Quad HD resolution (2880 x 1440 pixel at 537ppi). This will make it really bright and clear.

Key specs include the highest raised dual camera on a phone today with a DxO mark of 103. This comes via the 12 megapixel wide angle camera paired with the 16 megapixel telephoto camera that allows DSLR-quality bokeh photos. There’s a dual 8 megapixel camera setup up front for your selfie, bokeh and selfie-make-up effects.

It’s going to be available it Translucent Blue, Ceramic Black and Flame Red. You can pre-order one on the HTC.com website for £699. We’ve not had any networks come forward to say that they’re ranging it as yet.

The U12+ is 156.6mm tall, 73.9mm wide and quite thick, measuring between 8.7 mm – 9.7mm (camera height included). It also weighs in at 188g

Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, this has 64 bit octa-core power at 2.8 Ghz and comes with that 6GB RAM, 64GB on-board and a microSD slot. There’s a 3500mAh battery which should easily last you the day. You also get fast charging with the Quick Charge 3.0 charger in the box. This delivers up to a 50% charge in 35 minutes.

As this is HTC, the squeezy HTC Edge Sense 2 means you can access apps and control your phone this way, plus you can double-tap for a mini screen for easy one-handed use.

Other features include HTC USonic with Active Noise Cancellation, Hi-Res Audio, HTC BoomSound Hi-Fi, Qualcomm aptX HD and an “Always listening” Google Assistant / Amazon Alexa.

It’ll run Android 8.0 Oreo and is IP68 water and dust resistant. NFC, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5, GPS and USB type-C charging also feature.

There is a load of more info in the press release and we have reached out to ask for a review device once they become available. Perhaps the key features of this are the hugely quick CPU, the fact that there’s 4 cameras plus the squeezy Edge Sense 2 functionality and that excellent sound quality through the on-board speakers and the earphones.
