As you know, Brian Shufflebottom, Chief Apple Engineer, sat down in his small house in Bolton a couple of years back and had an idea.
I know! I’ve figured how we can STILL get the camera lens to fit AND provide more screen real-estate! We’ll just put a little notch in the screen! It’ll be a REVELATION!
And so it came to be. The iPhone X appeared and then every other manufacturer kinda copied the idea.
Not so Oppo though. Oh no. (See what I did there?) They decided to use a POP UP CAMERA! Check it out… check it out right now…
That footage comes from the YugaTech YouTube channel and I’ve embedded the whole video a little lower down. Now, this particular phone marks the start of an expansion into Europe, with their Flagship being launched at the Louvre Museum in Paris. The handset has a really rather beautiful “panoramic arc” screen with a mahoo-sive 6.42″ 19.5:9 panel giving a 93.8% screen-to-body ratio. That’s just nuts isn’t it? It’s also got a resolution of 2340×1080 @ 401ppi.
Inside there’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 CPU (4×2.8 GHz Kryo 385 Gold + 4×1.7 GHz Kryo 385 Silver) but… come on, we just love their “stealth 3D cameras”. There’s dual 16 megapixel and 20 megapixel cameras plus an AI camera interface system. Up-front Oppo have embedded a secure facial recognition system on their 25 megapixel selfie shooter.
Ready for some more specs? Oh yeah. There’s 8GB of memory on this thing and a massive 256GB storage. There’s a Lamborghini version of the device (yes, Lamborghini) with 512GB of storage instead. The regular version weighs in at 186g and measures 156.7mm x 74.2mm x 9.4mm, it’s got a fast charge 3730mAh battery, Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi and ColorOS 5.1 (Android 8.1). It’s going to be available in “Bordeaux Red” or “Glacier Blue”.
If you’re interested in this one, Oppo tell me that France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands will be the first to get it. Oh yes, and they stuck some 3D Emoji action in their too. They call it “Omoji” and you can basically have your own cartoon character face which tracks your expressions, then you can send to friends. Get all the details on the product page here. It’s going to cost a bit though, even the non-Lamborghini model is €999 and ships in August.
Come on now, time for that video..
