We recently mentioned the Joe Wicks daily workouts which are keeping us all active. With schools mostly shut down and kids stuck in the house, his daily PE lessons have been part of the morning routine for many.
His YouTube channel, as you can see from the numbers, was already pretty successful. The daily “PE with Joe” live broadcasts, though, have really blown the roof off – clocking up between 2.7 and 5.8 million views each.
The success has led TV channels approaching the fitness coach, with the intention of creating a full-on programme. However he’s turned these offers down, and speaking to BBC Radio 2, Joe explained the reasoning …
I have decided I want to stay on YouTube because I want it to have a global reach. I don’t want to be exclusive to one place. I have been blown away by the response.
In addition, the extra YouTube income made from these “Lockdown PE videos” will will be donated to the NHS.
Words can’t express how happy and proud I have felt every day this week. I’ve been overwhelmed with the response and the support it’s had from everyone. As a result of so many people viewing the #PEWithJoe workouts on YouTube the advertising revenue generated has been unlike anything I’ve seen or experienced on my channel before. So I’ve decided that as long as I’m the nation’s P.E. teacher, every single penny of the money generated on these videos is going to the place where we need it the most right now.
