No OnePlus Open 2……. but OPPO and Scotsman have your back (in a way)

So as some of you may know I love foldables and recently I have been trying quite a few of them to find that special one. After much deliberation and thought I settled on the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold when it came out last year.

However, there was a slight problem as after nearly 6 months of owning it I got itchy feet and wanted to try something new. So I then went through a few weeks of buying and selling various other folding blowers (Honor Magic V3 and Vivo X Fold 3 Pro), however I ended up settling on the OnePlus Open.

Now there were a few reasons for this.

  • -Firstly I was coming into this period after completing my review of the OnePlus 13 which I really liked.
  • -Secondly, I had originally bought a OnePlus Open back when it first came out but then sold it on as I already had another folding phone at the time.
  • -Thirdly I was aware of the rumours of the OnePlus Open 2 arriving imminently and I reckoned I could get some good trade-in against it with the original OnePlus Open.

Roll onto the 13th of Feb and we get the shattering news from OnePlus that the Open 2 is not a product and they are rethinking their foldable strategy for the future.

I was gutted by this news but then I recalled that OnePlus’s sister company OPPO had been teasing a new foldable, the OPPO Find N5 and this thing looked amazing. There was however an overarching question mark which was would it ever come to the UK or European markets?
So, it was with bated breath and anticipation that I watched the OPPO launch event earlier today to see if they would be launching it globally, as their ad campaigns suggested in the day leading up to the announcement.
Shockingly at the end of the event, the only price that was mentioned was the price for the Singapore markets and there has been no indication that it will be launching in Europe at all via the OPPO Stores. So that leaves me in a sticky position as this is the phone that I really do want and having now watched various other reviews by other bloggers those feelings have been greatly reinforced.

So I have started to look at my options for getting hold of one of these phones and lo and behold a fellow Scotsman has come to my rescue.

I want to introduce you to the Average Dad Tech Store and also to his Youtube channel. The chap who is running the store started out buying in devices from the Chinese markets and doing reviews of them and then offering tips and tricks on getting these devices to work for the UK and US markets ie using Google services Google Pay and pairing with Wear OS devices. I was watching him with interest to get a preview of what may be coming to the UK but was never really in a position to buy any of the phones he was offering as the risk of buying direct from China was always something I was worried about.

Roll onto the middle of last year and Mike (who runs the store and channel) posts the below video.

Not only was he running a successful YouTube channel but he was now opening his own store to buy Chinese-released devices and get them into to hands of us geeks who were hesitant to buy from other sources and bear the burden of the risks that were associated with doing that. This was music to my ears and I have been an avid follower since then.

So some of you may be wondering how this relates to the announcement of Oppo releasing the Find N5, well this is where it gets interesting. As of right now, you can order an OPPO Find N5  from the Average Dad Tech Store as a Global version for the low price of £1499 and you will be one of the 1st people to receive it there is also a very real possibility that if OPPO does in the future decide to release the phone here in the UK that it will be more expensive than the price being offered by the Average Dad Tech Store.

Now I do want to make things very very clear this is not a sponsored post but more of a PSA for those of you who want the OPPO Find N5 and are not based in the markets that it will ship to. I am not receiving any commission from this post and for sharing these links I am just trying to spread the love and provide an answer to the issue of the lack of foresight by OPPO, for not bringing this phone to the global markets.

If you do wish to go ahead and place an order through the Average Dad Tech Store then please use the links here and also use this code (LOYALTY3OFF) at checkout for a slight discount. Bear in mind that this code will work on all the phones on the site not just the Oppo Find N5.

UPDATE.

The Oppo N5 Global and Chinese versions have as of this morning at approx 3am has sold out but more stock is expected on the 25th of Feb when more stock becomes available.

I am hoping that I can get hold of a review unit from somewhere of the OPPO Find N5 as I am desperate to try one and potentially replace my OnePlus Open with it. it may be that I too end up buying one from Average Dad Tech Store as well because like you my readers I am a tech geek too!
