Amidst all the madness of the new iPad announcements (and the network availability from Three and EE) you may have missed one small titbit – the new Apple SIM. No, this isn’t Apple changing the size again, it is a standard nano SIM but one with a little extra twist. It allows you to choose the network you connect to.
The SIM allows you to choose which network you want to connect to for short term data plans, great if you travel a lot or want to try out a few networks before you commit to a longer term plan. Sounds great, it is, or rather it would do if it was being supported by more than one network in the UK, at the moment EE are the only ones to sign up to it at the moment. Over the pond in the US, the SIM supports AT&T, Sprint and T-mobile so if you take the tablet over to the States you’ll be able to select one of those whilst you are over there. Three have said they won’t be supporting it at the moment, whilst Vodafone and O2 haven’t said anything about stocking the iPad Air 2 yet.
