Microsoft are keen to point out that you get 4G, OneDrive cloud storage and pre-installed Office apps, even though there’s kinda similar offerings on other devices and Operating Systems. The Lumia 640 has a 5″ 1280×720 HD screen (294 PPI) whilst the 640 XL has a 5.7″ 1280×720 HD screen at the same PPI. Both have a 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 CPU and 8GB on-board storage with the possibility of adding another 128GB via a microSD card. The Lumia 640 has an 8 megapixel rear shooter with a 1 megapixel fixed-focus front camera, whereas the 640 XL has a 13 megapixel rear shooter and a 5 megapixel fixed-focus front unit.
Both will be upgradeable to Windows 10 but will run Lumia Denim out of the box. How much? You can get the Lumia 640 for a mere £99.99, or you can dive into a contract and pay £15.50 per month on contract. It’s available in Carphone Warehouse and on EE, O2, Vodafone, Three, Amazon, Tesco and Virgin. The Lumia 640 XL, when it’s available, will cost you £219 and is going to sell in matte cyan, orange and black, as well as both matte and glossy white.

The Lumia 640, already widely available from retailers across the UK, will be joined by the Lumia 640 XL by the end of April. Dixon Carphone Group will stock the Lumia 640 exclusively in glossy white. The Lumia 640 XL will be available from a range of online retailers starting from £219 SIM-free in matte cyan, orange and black, as well as both matte and glossy white.
