Customers of BT broadband have a great advantage over anyone else when they’re out and about given that the media giant has most of the country covered with WiFi. Now Virgin Media are getting into the game too. From next month it will offer its customers free wifi in a variety of public places across the UK.
What’s a bit weird, at least to my mind, is that the home and business routers currently used by Virgin customers will provide the wifi. Customers are free to opt out of the system, and of course it won’t provide access to their home wireless network, but people are automatically opted in. Not sure I’d want my router used in this way, even if my privacy could be guaranteed.
Further details are here on the Virgin Media site.
