Despite the launch of two premium Lumia handsets and Windows 10 Mobile late last year, things are not going well for Microsoft’s mobile aspirations. Sales figures are down, and although the new phones received generally positive reviews, they hardly set the tech world alight with new features or reasons for people to switch OS. News from Finland, where Microsoft has (or rather had!) a sizeable phone division, is that more of the former Nokia employees are being made redundant as Microsoft attempts to streamline its phone operations. Although precise numbers aren’t available, it comes on top of the 2,300 job cuts in the mobile division that were announced last March. These are dark days for Windows Mobile/Phone, and it’s looking increasingly hard to perceive how Microsoft is going to turn its fortunes around in this particular area.
