After what feels like an age it appears that Android Pay is finally making the journey across the pond to the UK. The Telegraph is reporting that Google will launch the mobile payments system in the UK at the end of March.
Since Apple Pay’s debut in the UK last year, us Android users have generally been out in the cold when it came to mobile payments systems. All we do is stick our bank cards to the back of our phones to try and emulate the technology.
Samsung Pay, which is Samsung’s foray into the mobile payments world, is also due to arrive in the UK later this year, so UK Android owners will soon have a choice of payments systems to pick from.
Hopefully, the majority of the UK banks will get on board because more than half the smartphones owned in the UK use Google’s Android operating system. Some banks, such as Barclays, already run their own contactless mobile payments system through NFC via Barclay’s application.
Android Pay requires an Android handset (or tablet) to be running Android version 4.4 KitKat or higher with the NFC enabled (one plus 2 owners insert frown here)
