Unless you have been living in a cave, with your eyes shut and your fingers in your ears, you will have heard of the recent hoo-ha over a certain company and a law enforcement agency request to unlock an iPhone. This has spiralled into a privacy debate, which in some ways is a good thing as it’s brought privacy into the limelight and actually made some people think about the subject, some for the first time.
Well, the worldwide popular messaging app, Whats app has partnered with Open Whisper Systems to bring end-to-end encryption to all WhatsApp communications, and today the company have announced that have finally concluded the long process. This isn’t a completely new process as the messaging service first starting the encryption process back in November 2014, but now all the services, which includes text, voice calls, video chats and group messages are fully encrypted from end to end.
I had the following appear on the app this morning.
This encryption, like the app itself, is cross platform including Android, iOS and BB10, as long as you’ve updated to the latest version of the app.
