Got a patchy signal and on O2? Don’t worry! You can call over WiFi! Well, up until now you’ve had to use a separate app, but TU Go did let you make and receive calls in areas you weren’t able to before.
However, here’s the bad news. Tomorrow O2 are shutting down TU Go and are instead switching to WiFi calling via the phone itself. No app needed. Trouble is, it’s not going to work on as many phones as the TU Go app did. So, for example, if you were using the O2 TU Go system to call over your WiFi and you’ve got an iPhone 5C, you’re stuffed.
The new O2 WiFi calling works with iPhone X, 8, 7, 6S, 6 and SE. It also works with the newer Samsung Galaxy phones such as the Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+, S7, S7 edge and Note 8. If you’ve got a Sony XZ Premium, XZ1 or XZ1 Compact then you’re in luck too, but it looks like they’ll need to have been provided by O2 in order for all this to work and you’ll be needing the latest firmware.
For everybody else on O2, it’s a no-go.
