OK, so after finding out that most of you still wear a watch we wanted to ask you another question. MVNO’s, or “Mobile virtual network operators”, piggy-back off one of the “major” networks and have been gained popularity over the last few years. Most people will be aware of Vodafone, Three, O2, Orange and T-Mobile. They are the networks with the infrastructure and masts to make things work. Orange and T-Mobile now sharing their networks and (hopefully) about to switch 3G / HSDPA roaming on too.
There’s lots of virtual network operators. You’ll have probably seen your local supermarket promoting their own mobile deals alongside their own network too. The list is pretty endless, LycaMobile, Virgin Mobile, TalkTalk Mobile, Asda Mobile, Tesco Mobile, GiffGaff, Talkmobile, Lebara Mobile, Vectone Mobile, iCard mobile, Telecom Plus, Tru Phone, C Mobile, Phone Co-op … the list goes on. Even Ikea have their own mobile offering with Family Mobile.
GiffGaff appear to have gained quite a few supporters, especially with “unlimited data”. There’s also some very cheap deals on Talkmobile from the Carphone Warehouse, with 500MB of data, 200 minutes and 500 texts costing £8 on a rolling monthly tariff.
So, we’d like to know. Do you buy a phone and then use a SIM from an MVNO ? Which MVNO do you use and why?
Slight correction there. Unlimited data is going to stay in giffgaff’s bundles (called “goodybags”), whereas users not buying bundles will start being charged for data usage from 4th of July. New charges are 20p per day for 20MB of use, then 20p per MB.
Talkmobile user here, “unlimited” data on a 12month plan. No problems so far, coverage is exactly the same as with Voda. Data speeds are more than acceptable for the UK too.
I’m on Talk mobile, enjoying it so far. Their a Vodaphone MVNO.
Another Giffgaffer here, 10 pounds a month goody bag………. Perfect for hardcore streaming!
what is the relation between wearing a watch and using MVNO, or which MVNO
Talkmobile, they have great international packages, and roaming on vodafone makes it a great connection
Giffgaff £10 goodybag for me.
