Last year we reviewed the teeny-tiny Unihertz Jelly Pro. It’s a regular Android phone, but shrunken down to 7.8 x 12.5 x 5 cm with a 2.45″ screen. There’s everything in there that you’d expect. WiFi, GPS, 4G and all the usual apps, but it’s tiny enough to fit in that weird pocket in your jeans where you’re supposed to put coins.
Now, after smashing Indiegogo targets, a rugged version of the phone is about to appear and will be available to buy on Amazon from November.
It’ll have a fingerprint scanner, 2000mAh battery and will probably retail for £199. When I tested the Jelly Pro, I found it ideal for hiking and riding, as it took up less space and – thanks to the smaller screen and lack of expensive glass and steel – was less prone to break. The only minor issue, I found, was the small keyboard, but once the main apps were on there (Strava, WhatsApp and some other bits), it served as a great “biking phone” so that I didn’t have to lug around my normal handset in the snug lycra shorts. Obviously they’ve developed the Atom purely based on my usage of the original Jelly 🙂
We should hopefully have a review of the new rugged Atom version very soon. Here’s a look at it in action…
