Spotted here at MSMobiles is something that looks quite familiar. O2 MediaPlus is an application that comes with the XDA Atom and gives us a interesting view of how the Windows Media Center interface style can be used on portable devices. You can see the similarity between the two with this screenshot below, which is taken from Windows MCE 2005…
.. this MediaPlus software even brings an FM radio with recording capability. Very Media Center! We’re not sure whether this is a very thinly-disguised copy of the interface by o2 or something that Microsoft has been working on, either way we think it’s very clever indeed. Liam emailed me to say, “All we now is a Samsung i300x with a DVB-H tuner!” Very true indeed.
As someone who’s spent three weekends building a Windows Media Center myself (don’t try it, just buy one off the shelf kids!), it’s fantastic to see that something has been worked on for Windows Mobile. Remember this isn’t just a Portable Media Center like the iRiver PMC-100 this is a Windows Mobile Pocket PC with something very similar on top. Nice.
