Palm is now up for sale. The company once made Windows Mobile handsets and likely bidders include HTC and Lenovo. Palm have posted 11 straight quarterly losses with the Pre and Pixi handsets failing to rescue the sliding share prices. Palm saw its share price rally as Bloomberg reported that a takeover was on the cards.
Why HTC ? Well, Palm has been around for some time and has many patents – these would all become HTC property and would help fight the Apple lawsuit. Palm also has a big brand-awareness in the US, so whether the WebOS survives or not – the Palm brand could be worth more.
