Market research giant IDC reckons that half a billion new handsets will fly out of shops next year, driven by demand for new services such as GPRS, camera and third generation phones.
However, 3G will not overtake the current market and will continue to be small fry. IDC believe that 241,000,000 GPRS phones will be sold next year.
IDC believe that phones with cameras – and in-built cameras (such as the SPV2) will balloon to 64 per cent between 2004 and 2003.
Smartphones will grow to 30 million units next year.
