Android users may well have heard about the CyanogenMod. It’s an optimized and tweaked build of Android based on bits of Donut and some excellent contributions from xda-developers.com. Now, whilst ROM cooking and tweaking has been going on for years with Windows Mobile, it seems that Google isn’t letting this happen with cyanogen receiving a cease and desist letter from Google themselves. Meh ? What happened to the open source vibe?
Since then a petition app has become available but it seems that a peaceful solution might still be available.
Update – Here’s the official line from Google. Sure, they don’t mind most of Android being played with, but don’t twiddle with the Google-built apps. It means that nandroid could be illegal too in theory..
