This HTC One has been “hacked” via a firmware tweak to “pursuade the phone to emit ultrasound pulses” from the BoomSound speakers. The echos are then detected through the microphone. It’s like a super-low-res baby scanner, but here they’re using the app to detect double-yolk eggs. The app will see through the internal structure of the egg to detect whether there’s one or two yolks inside.

OK, so does it work? Well, there’s only way to find out. Take it round lots of shops and test huge amounts of eggs. We have our doubts, but somehow the results seem to speak for themselves. Colour us confused. Either way, I’m off for an omlette…
